We are very excited to bring you the next episode of Radium Tutorials. In this episode we take a look at pitch correcting chorus vocals. This is our everyday workflow for tuning vocals and achieving radio ready pitch. The tools we use to achieve these results are listed below as well as the song used in this tutorial.
- Melodyne 4 Editor – Link
- This is the versions of Melodyne used in this tutorial. It is the most comprehensive Melodyne plugin option for use in Pro Tools and any other DAW. As always it is not the most cost efficient option coming in at $499 USD. It includes the full feature set going beyond the uses shown in this tutorial such as editing polyphonic material or rather editing chords.
- Melodyne 4 Assistant – Link
- An affordable alternative to Melodyne Editor. Coming in at half the cost at $249 USD, Melodyne Assistant has all the functionality shown in this tutorial and more. This Is our recommendation for someone who wants to get into serious pitch correcting but does not want to spend the large upfront cost of Melodyne Editor.
- Melodyne 4 Essential – Link
- This is the most affordable version of Melodyne coming in at $99 USD. We would recommend this to anyone who is just starting out and wants to get into working with Melodyne. This version has most of the major features used in this tutorial, minus the ability to change pitch drift or edit the slides between notes. This can be a great way to start out for anyone on a budget.
- Auto-Tune 8 – Link
- This is the full version of Auto-Tune which was used in our tutorial, this being a new version of that plugin. This is the highest tier of Auto-Tune coming in at $399 USD. It offers its auto mode as well as its own manual mode with note by note editing as well. We tend to stick with Melodyne for manual pitch correction but this plugin can yield great results with those duties as well. This version has the best version of Auto-Tuning out of any other offerings and this is the reason why we use it.
- Auto-Tune EFX 3 – Link
- Auto-Tune EFX is the real time version of Auto-Tune which we use for recording vocals. It is a great cost efficient alternative coming in at $129 USD. This versions of Auto-Tune has very low latency and is our go-to for recording but is also very useable in mixing / editing. It does not include any manual pitch correction and does not have the same level of tweak-ability as the full version of Auto-Tune. None the less this is our recommendation for anyone who wants to purchase their first version of Auto-Tune.
Thanks for checking out our second tutorial and we have another one looking at mixing drums coming soon!
